What does asphalt, strawberries, a blue Oldsmobile and a cracked helmet have in common?

Crashing sucks

As you may have guessed — I had an accident — it was not fun at all. Yesterday, on my way home from work, I was trimming up the right side of traffic coming up to a light (legal), this is a common spot for traffic to back up and I have passed cars here  many times before. What was different this time? Well, there was a rather large truck coming to a stop right next to me, he wasn’t the problem as he was neither blue nor an Oldsmobile. As he came to a stop, I didn’t realize he was waving on the olds that was coming from the other direction trying to make a left into the parking lot I was about to pass. The next two seconds really sucked! As I came to the front of the truck I was met by a faded blue olds with a very distinct red pinstripe, she was right there! I managed to skid sorta sideways into the rear quarter of the car –eject was activated and I flew over the car and onto the ground, which is just as hard as it seems. I felt my head hit the ground and I clearly remember thinking I was glad I had a helmet on. Fixed gear riders aren’t known for wearing helmets, but after my buddy Dave’s horrible accident and now this, I’m a believer. The helmet was cracked and my head wasn’t, I’d say best case scenario considering the impact. So my injuries include a couple strawberries, a bruised hip, and a sore-swollen elbow.  The bike sustained a couple of dents, pretty minor considering. While riding the last four miles home I started to notice the pain. I don’t know how I didn’t end up with bent wheels, I guess the slide thing set the bike sideways.  Again, watch yourself, I’m not bragging, but I ride my bike very well and  I am very aware of my surroundings. Regardless, it happened to me and there wasn’t much I could do.
