Wheel Coverage…

Alright, I have mixed feelings on wheel covers. There may be an actual advantage in respects to efficiency with solid wheels or wheels with covers, who knows?  I’m not going to start a scientific analysis to find out, and quite honestly, I think that it is only partially relevant.  What I am going to do is to build a couple of sets to ride/ paint.  I got this idea after seeing these wheel covers and admiring the art. I didn’t like any of the current options for ready made wheel covers. So… I decided to tackle this one head on. I have here the beginnings of a prototype and with any kind of luck all of this tinkering will work out and if anyone else wants a set to paint–ride–race–polo then they will be available for not much more than the cost.

Here is one of the first set, it has yet to be thermoformed. I am working on a jig to heat and form these to the needed dish shape –this is the tricky part. I had these cut out of a large sheet of polystyrene on a very cool computer controlled CNC machine. In other words, they are cut perfectly round with precise edges and shape. These are for a 700 wheel and if all goes well I will make them for a 650 wheel also. I’ll keep ya posted…
